WHAT INFUKOLL® 6 % SOLUTION FOR INFUSION IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion is used to treat and prevent shock due to loss of fluid in your body, for example if you have severe bleeding.
Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion contains 6 % poly (O-2-hydroxyethylstarch; 0,9 % sodium chloride and water for injections.
The clear, colourless solution is available in 500 ml glass bottles and 500 ml infusion bags.
BEFORE YOU USE INFUKOLL® 6 % SOLUTION FOR INFUSION
Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion should not be used:
- if you are allergic to hydroxyethyl starch
- if you have too much blood circulating
- if your blood levels of sodium or chloride are too high
- if you have a serious heart condition
- if you have water in your lungs (pulmonary oedema)
- if you have a kidney failure or severely impaired liver function
- if you have bleeding in the brain
- if you have a severe blood clotting disorder
Special care should be taken with Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion:
You will have blood tests whilst receiving Infukoll® 6 %, especially if you have kidney, liver or heart problems or a clotting disorder.
Pregnancy
There is not much information about the use of Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion during pregnancy so it should only be used if your doctor considers it clearly necessary.
Breast-feeding
Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion should be used with care whilst breast-feeding. There is as yet no experience with the use of Infukoll® 6 % in nursing mothers.
Using other medicines:
Please inform your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, in particular heparin or other anticoagulants like warfarin that are used to make your blood thin.

HOW TO USE INFUKOLL® 6 % SOLUTION FOR INFUSION
Your doctor will give you this product by infusion (drip) using a canula inserted in a vein. The dose and duration of treatment will depend on your clinical condition.
Use immediately after first opening and discard any unused product.
Use clear solution from intact containers.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Occasionally people have an allergic reaction to the ingredient hydroxyethyl starch, in which case your doctor will stop the infusion.
Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion may affect your blood so your doctor will monitor it carefully.
Some people get itching after they have used Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion for a long time. The itching may even appear weeks after the last infusion and may last for months.
You should tell your doctor if you have any other effects not mentioned in this leaflet.
In case of an acute overdose infusion must be stopped immediately and diuretics should be administered if the doctor thinks it necessary.
Do not use Infukoll® 6 % solution for infusion after the expiry date on the label.

Your hospital doctor will store the product.
Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
